Battlestar Athena

I was struck by the memory of Bear McCrearys phenomenal soundtrack for 2004 BSG. I began designing a custom Battlestar immediately and after two month of on and off work we are here.

I present the Metis class Battlestar “Athena”. (Metis was the first wife of Zeus (who he ate (because hes Zeus)), goddess of wisdom and mother of the goddess Athena.)

My intend was to design a smaller Battlestar with superior frontal firepower and powerful engines to flank and charge at enemy ships while a more traditional Battlestar keeps them occupied.

The design inspirations came from Chris Kuhns fantastic Blender rebuild of the 2004 Galactica and the studio model of the Pegasus.

I might never texture this.

The underslung hangar was something I decided on because I had not seen it before.

The overall shape has many clear references to the canonical designs.

The Details are mostly kitbashed out of my personal library (a loose conglomerate of free greeblie packs and self modeled things).

The Viper launch tubes and workshops are not in the hangar bay itself but build into the main hull. I imagine that the two are connected by a system of freight elevators.

The Viper MK7 model is quite bad and really only usable at great distance. It does its job though.
